Dong Nai Proposes Locations for the Railway and Metro Stations at Long Thanh Airport

ANTD.VN - In an official dispatch sent to the Ministry of Construction, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the Dong Nai City People's Committee proposed an integrated layout configuration for the railway-metro station cluster at Long Thanh Airport, arranging them in a staggered horizontal layout but with centralized connectivity.

According to the proposal, the railway lines are positioned within the approach corridor of Passenger Terminal T1 at Long Thanh Airport.

Among these, the North-South high-speed railway lies on the centerline of the primary railway system corridor.

The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line extension to Dong Nai is positioned to the left of the North-South high-speed railway line (in the direction from HCMC to Dong Nai), while the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro line is positioned to the right (in the direction from HCMC to Dong Nai).

Because the space in front of Terminal T1 is constrained by the approach road system, viaducts, parking lots, and technical infrastructure works, the Dong Nai City People's Committee proposed organizing the railway stations under a horizontally staggered arrangement principle.

Accordingly, the North-South high-speed railway station is shifted northeastward relative to the Terminal T1 axis and serves as the hub center of the transport node, connecting Long Thanh Airport with the national railway and metro lines.

Dong Nai City proposes the locations for the railway and metro stations at Long Thanh Airport.

The two metro stations are shifted southwestward relative to Terminal T1, placed parallel to each other, and positioned symmetrically across the centerline of the North-South high-speed railway line.

With this option, the high-speed railway station and the two metro stations are organized independently in terms of structure, technology, signaling, train operation control, and commercial exploitation. The scope of the stations is calculated to provide sufficient space for routing tunnels, platforms, passenger distribution concourses, stairs, escalators, elevators, emergency evacuations, etc. Detailed parameters will continue to be studied during the subsequent design phases.

Regarding passenger connectivity, the Dong Nai City People's Committee proposed an option where passengers from Terminal T1 access the railway and metro stations via a transit pedestrian bridge system. The connection between Terminal T1 and the high-speed railway station as well as the metro stations can be executed by pedestrian bridges, underground tunnels, or a combination of both forms.

The concrete alternative will continue to be studied to properly align with the spatial organization of Terminal T1, the roadway system, parking lots, pick-up/drop-off areas, and airport operational requirements.

According to the Dong Nai City People's Committee, the greatest advantage of this variant is that it utilizes the existing technical corridor of Long Thanh Airport, minimizing impacts on ongoing construction works such as approach roads, viaducts, parking lots, and technical infrastructure.

Furthermore, the independent organization between the North-South high-speed railway, the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro extension, and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro will reduce technical interface risks among lines that have different standards and operational requirements. Each project can deploy its own investment, construction, commission, operation, and maintenance according to its separate timeline.

However, this option also presents drawbacks as the area allocated for underground structures in front of Terminal T1 is restricted by numerous existing and under-construction facilities. Consequently, the distances between routing tunnels, station boxes, diaphragm walls, structural foundations, and technical infrastructure systems must be kept to a minimum, requiring the application of appropriate structural solutions and construction methods.

In addition, since implementation involves multiple projects and various management authorities, close coordination is highly necessary to control technical interfaces, avoid overlapping construction boundaries, and prevent design adjustments from arising.

The Dong Nai City People's Committee stated that detailed technical contents will continue to be studied during project execution to ensure an optimal solution that fits the operational requirements of Long Thanh Airport.
