(DN) – On the evening of May 18, the Dong Nai City Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee held the ceremony to announce the National Assembly’s Resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City.

Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, attended the ceremony. Also attending were former Politburo members: former President Nguyen Minh Triet; former President Truong Tan Sang; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; and former Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh. Politburo members and former Politburo members; members and former members of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat; members and former members of the Party Central Committee; leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front; representatives of central commissions, ministries and agencies; provinces and cities nationwide; diplomatic missions in Ho Chi Minh City; and representatives of provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia also attended the ceremony.

From Dong Nai City, attendees included Comrade Vu Hong Van, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee and Head of the National Assembly Deputies’ Delegation of Dong Nai City; current and former city leaders through different periods; Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces; Labor Heroes in the renewal period; deputies of the 16th National Assembly of the Dong Nai City National Assembly Deputies’ Delegation; leaders of departments, agencies and sectors; religious dignitaries; and reputable persons among ethnic communities.

At the ceremony, Comrade Phan Chi Hieu, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Legal and Judicial Affairs, announced Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 of the National Assembly on the establishment of Dong Nai City.

Dong Nai City was established on the basis of the entire natural area and population size of Dong Nai Province. Dong Nai City borders Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong Province, Tay Ninh Province and the Kingdom of Cambodia. The city has a natural area of 12,737.18 square kilometers, a population of 4,491,408 people and 95 commune-level administrative units, including 33 wards and 62 communes.

Dong Nai City currently serves as a direct linkage hub connecting development corridors and the country’s largest economic center, Ho Chi Minh City, with the Central Highlands, the South Central Coast and the Mekong Delta. With its increasingly synchronized and modern socio-economic infrastructure, especially transport, industrial, service and logistics infrastructure, together with Long Thanh International Airport under rapid construction and completion, Dong Nai City has fully gathered the factors of an urban area with great development potential, a polycentric and multifunctional structure, and strong spillover effects across the southern region and the country.

At the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam presented National Assembly Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 on the establishment of Dong Nai City to the Standing Board of the Dong Nai City Party Committee.
