After liberation, many localities in Dong Nai suffered heavy losses from the war. After 1975, Dong Nai’s agriculture almost had to start again from zero, as irrigation systems and infrastructure had been severely damaged. Farmers engaged in fragmented, spontaneous production, with outdated farming techniques and shortages of agricultural inputs and machinery.

From the above reality, the Dong Nai Party Committee in its early terms closely followed the practical situation and set out a number of specific goals and orientations to comprehensively promote agricultural production, step by step and with urgency building Dong Nai into a prosperous province with strong industrial and agricultural development. Within a few years, Dong Nai overcame the consequences of war, restored production and developed further.

Recalling the development tradition of Dinh Quan, Nguyen Cao Cuong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Dinh Quan Commune, shared: After the liberation of Dinh Quan, amid difficulties in all aspects, under the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels, together with the consensus of people from all walks of life, Dinh Quan was built up, developed and transformed strongly. After the merger, the Dinh Quan Commune administration quickly stabilized and operated effectively, creating favorable conditions for people to handle administrative procedures. The economy has shifted positively from agriculture to industry, handicrafts, and trade and services. In the new period, the locality continues to build ecological agriculture and modern rural areas, with the highest goal of constantly improving the material and spiritual life of the people; at the same time preserving and promoting cultural values and historical traditions, while firmly ensuring security and defense.

Although it is an industrially developed locality, Dong Nai has shown very strong determination and given very decisive direction in implementation, achieving impressive results in the agricultural sector. Dong Nai’s agricultural sector has risen to be among the country’s top performers in terms of growth, especially in the transition from fragmented, small-scale agricultural production to the application of high technology in large-scale commodity production. This is also the foundation for Dong Nai to consistently maintain its leading position throughout the journey of building new-style rural areas, advanced new-style rural areas and model rural areas.

Towards a “capital” of high-tech agriculture

After the provincial merger, with more than 1 million hectares of agricultural land, favorable natural conditions, and many of the province’s key agricultural products ranking among the largest in the country in terms of cultivation area, such as nearly 288 thousand hectares of rubber, more than 175 thousand hectares of cashew, nearly 25 thousand hectares of durian, and more than 20 thousand hectares of banana... Dong Nai’s agricultural exports have recorded impressive figures: exports of cashew products valued at nearly USD 2.8 billion, coffee nearly USD 1.6 billion, rubber more than USD 1.3 billion, and wood and wood products nearly USD 1.7 billion… The agricultural export activities of Dong Nai City have affirmed its position on the world map.

In the livestock sector, the city’s total pig herd currently reaches more than 4.2 million heads, while the total poultry flock exceeds 36.2 million birds. Dong Nai continues to maintain its position as the country’s “capital” of livestock farming. Notably, the city’s livestock sector is undergoing a strong transformation, promoting the application of science and technology and shifting from small-scale farming to industrialized production with large commodity-scale operations. The application of high technology in livestock farming across the city has achieved many positive results, with numerous models applying advanced and modern technologies.

Nguyen Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: The entire city has 436 high-tech agricultural application models; 328 enterprises and 96 cooperatives apply high technology in production. In the 2020-2025 term, the value of high-tech agricultural products of the former Dong Nai Province is estimated at more than VND 38.4 trillion, accounting for nearly 51.3% of the city’s total value of key agricultural products. The former Binh Phuoc Province attracted investment in high-tech, clean, organic agriculture and processing in the livestock sector worth about VND 11.5 trillion. Dong Nai has formed a linkage model between high-tech agriculture and clean, organic agriculture combined with ecological urban areas, residential zones, tourism and landscapes.

Across the city, 19 high-tech agricultural zones have been established, creating an advantage in attracting investment for the development of modern and sustainable agricultural production. In particular, the “super project” on concentrated livestock production and agricultural product processing applying high technology, covering 1.5 thousand hectares and recently launched in Thuan Loi Commune, will create a new breakthrough in both quality and quantity for Dong Nai’s livestock sector. The project aims to form a large-scale high-tech agricultural zone integrating livestock farming, crop cultivation and processing under a closed value chain. It also targets a circular economy model, reusing by-products and waste and using renewable energy to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment.

Nguyen Thi Hoang, member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the City People’s Committee, emphasized: In the coming time, the city will continue to focus on investing in research, transfer and application of scientific and technological advances in agricultural production; considering the research and transfer of scientific and technological applications in the production, preservation and processing of agricultural products and food as an especially important breakthrough to promote the development of agricultural production and the rural economy.

​Speaking at the project launch ceremony, Bui Thi Minh Thuy, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People’s Council of Thuan Loi Commune, said: “The concentrated high-tech livestock production and agricultural product processing project is a large-scale project of strategic significance, in line with the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on developing modern, high-tech, green and sustainable agriculture. Dong Nai City’s selection of Thuan Loi Commune to implement the project reflects its attention to and confidence in the locality’s potential. Fully aware of the importance of the project, we identify this as a key political task and will focus leadership and strong direction on its implementation.”
