The industrial city of Dong Nai offers not only numerous investment and development opportunities in industry, trade, and services but also serves as a land of great potential for agricultural expansion. Dong Nai has long established itself as a "capital" in both the livestock and cultivation sectors.

In this new phase, Dong Nai continues to be a favorable destination attracting a fresh wave of investment into agriculture and rural areas. The city is also orienting its agricultural development toward intensifying the application of high technology, digital technology, and information technology to establish a smart agricultural production system linked to global value chains.

Investment opportunities in agriculture

Nearly 20 years ago, Ms. Duong Thi Thu Hue, Director of KINOKO Long Khanh Import-Export Co., Ltd (located in Bao Vinh Ward), chose to come to Vietnam's largest mushroom-growing region to develop her mushroom cultivation business. Upon accumulating sufficient capital and recognizing the growing investment opportunities in the industrial city of Dong Nai, Ms. Hue decided to invest tens of billions of VND to build a large-scale mushroom production facility for domestic and export markets. Within this large-scale plant, she invested in modern machinery systems, utilizing robotics to replace human labor. With an area of only a few thousand square meters, Ms. Hue's production facility can produce dozens of tons of mushrooms to supply the domestic market and fulfill large export orders to various countries worldwide.

Ms. Hue shared: "I had the opportunity to learn about Japanese mushroom cultivation technology. This model is exceptional because it not only produces clean, health-conscious food but also helps protect the environment. Dong Nai City converges all the advantages of human resources, land, geographical location, and a vast consumer market for businesses to confidently expand large-scale production."

Recognizing these same advantages, Mr. Nguyen The Tung, Chairman and CEO of Queen Farm Vietnam, chose to invest in a modern durian farm in Phuoc Son Commune, Dong Nai City. To date, this 55-hectare farm has implemented high technology across all production stages, from irrigation and fertilization to the use of Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and measurement sensors to control critical parameters. Furthermore, drone technology is utilized to detect and promptly treat pests. Currently, this high-tech durian farm supplies hundreds of tons of durians annually, with product quality meeting export standards for the most demanding markets.

Expanding livable rural areas

Despite its focus on industrial development, Dong Nai also leads the country in building "new-style rural areas." Alongside this movement, rural infrastructure has received synchronized investment. Accordingly, even in mountainous and remote communes, rural road systems have been asphalted or concreted, reaching every alley and field to facilitate both the daily lives and production activities of farmers. Other infrastructure, such as healthcare, education, and culture, has also been comprehensively developed.

Consequently, many rural areas have continuously undergone a "metamorphosis," becoming favorable lands for residents to establish careers and build wealth. Farmers' awareness is increasingly enhanced; they are boldly transitioning to safe production and livestock practices, contributing to a pristine rural environment. As a result, many beautiful, ecological rural areas in Dong Nai are becoming destinations that attract tourists from near and far.

From a once-difficult commune, Nghia Trung has now become one of the leading localities in organic agricultural development. Regarding black pepper alone, the commune has established six safe pepper production clubs with hundreds of farmers participating in value chains to supply local export processing enterprises. Many skilled farmers in the commune have grown wealthy through their labor right on their own homeland.

Mr. Vy Linh Duy, Head of the Nghia Binh 2 Organic Pepper Cooperative (Nghia Trung Commune), shared: "We farmers actively transitioned to organic pepper cultivation primarily to protect the health of ourselves and our families, who live in the production areas daily. Organic farming has also increasingly proven its high economic efficiency; as the soil is enriched and crops grow well with fewer diseases, farmers feel secure in their long-term commitment."

Dong Nai is among the leading localities nationwide in attracting investment into agricultural and livestock processing sectors, including animal feed production, and the processing of coffee, pepper, and food products. Currently, Dong Nai continues to be an attractive destination, particularly for drawing investment into high-tech processing industries integrated into global supply chains.

Nguyen Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, remarked: "Dong Nai currently serves as a 'capital' for livestock as well as various industrial and fruit crops with export advantages, such as rubber, cashews, pepper, durians, and tissue-cultured bananas. The city has successfully established specialized farming zones and large-scale commodity production areas integrated with geographical indications and origin tracing. The orientation for Dong Nai's agricultural sector in the new phase is to develop high-tech, ecological, and organic agriculture by leveraging the unique strengths of each locality."
